Perlite is an ultra-lightweight volcanic glass that is used to enhance soil aeration, improve water drainage and prevent soil compaction. Mix 10-30% perlite into standard potting mix to help roots breathe and prevents water from pooling. Perlite is ideal for succulents, cactus and any plants that are prone to root rot. You can mix up to 50% perlite with soil to ensure water drains rapidly.
